It might sound too good to be true, but we really can make you a brand new tooth within one hour. This means your tooth can be prepared for your crown and it can be fabricated and fitted in just one easy and quick appointment. We are able to do this thanks to our CEREC machine.
Advantages of CEREC
The advantages of this system are easy to see. We know many of our patients lead very busy lives and find it difficult to schedule dental appointments. Conventional crowns can take two weeks or even longer to make, as they have to be individually hand-crafted by a ceramist in our laboratory. This does provide excellent results, but quite often a tooth can become damaged due to some sort of accident or trauma, or older crowns can sometimes break and fail and we know you simply want to get it repaired as soon as possible. We can provide you with a beautiful new crown with the minimum of fuss, and this can be a life-saver if you have a special event to attend. There is no need to worry about having more than one injection and no need to worry about temporary teeth becoming loose or falling out.
What is CEREC?
CEREC uses CAD/CAM technology to custom design and make your crown to the exact specifications and design of our dentist. Each crown is milled from a single block of porcelain. It is precision made so it will provide the best possible fit for your tooth, ensuring the remaining tooth structure is tightly sealed. This protects the tooth from bacteria in the mouth that would otherwise be able to penetrate the tooth, causing infection and decay.
Your tooth will be prepared in the same way as for a conventional crown, but there is no need for messy and uncomfortable impressions. Instead, our dentist will scan your tooth with a tiny infra-red camera. The information allows them to computer design your crown before the prescription is transmitted to our CEREC machine for milling. Your dentist will have pre-selected the shade and translucency of the porcelain block, so it will closely match your remaining teeth. While your new tooth is being made, all you have to do is to sit back and relax with our LCD entertainment system and perhaps catch up with your favorite show. It only takes around twenty minutes or even less to make and custom finish your crown, after which it can be tried in your mouth. The final step is to permanently cement it in position so you can leave our facility with your newly made tooth.
Is CEREC Always Best?
CEREC crowns are great, and will be suitable for many situations but they may not always be the best solution. If you intend to have a smile makeover that requires quite a number of teeth or veneers then you will probably be far better off having your new smile made in our dental laboratory. The crowns may take a little longer, but we are confident the results will be well worth the wait. Conventionally made crowns are often made using many different shades of porcelains to help give the depth and liveliness of a natural tooth.
